Adding Fractions with Unlike Denominators

Students can easily find common denominators with a rate series approach modeled in this video.  Then you can move them to faster more efficient methods like multiplication and cross multiplying or Bam Bam Pow!

Reducing Fractions to Lowest Terms

When students have trouble with division facts or don't understand what division means (see division intervention video below) then reducing fractions to lowest terms becomes a greater struggle.  In the video below, I show a way to use the multiplication chart that eliminates the struggle and helps add number sense to reducing fractions.

Multiplication Algorithm Strategies

These interventions are done in several steps but help students to understand the algorithm pattern and why it is the fastest way to multiply double and triple-digit numbers.

Multiplication Facts Strategies

Building Number Sense is the best way for students to develop fluency with their math facts.  There are many activities that help with this and I have modeled two in this video.  For more activities and to read why timed math tests are destructive to students, check out the website YouCubed by Jo Boaler.

Place Value Strategies

Did you know that by using the name "thousands" for the one thousand place, you are missing the pattern that occurs in each period of three numbers???  See why and more in my video on place value strategies linked below.  Only 4 mins. :)

Rounding & Estimating Strategies

Want a cool foldable or a quick step by step to round any number to any place value???  Check out my video below for rounding and estimating strategies that work!

Rounding and Estimating Numbers to Any Place Value - Don't forget that estimating is rounding to the highest (or designated) place value. :)

The next step you gotta

Multiply

After that you better
